The Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations, Agni Deo Singh, has announced that the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) report for Nabua Primary School is still pending. A team had visited the school on November 4, expecting to provide the report the next day. However, despite numerous follow-ups, no further action has been taken by the Ministry.
Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro has also raised concerns regarding the poor conditions at the school, where students are being exposed to unsafe environments due to incomplete and inadequately maintained structures. “According to the initial information we’ve gathered, the building constructed under previous management was left incomplete,” noted Mr. Radrodro. He mentioned that efforts are underway to collaborate with the new management to find effective solutions for completing the structure.
The school has been facing significant issues with structural safety, including damaged roofs and missing window panes, which not only poses risks to student safety but could also serve as potential escape routes in emergencies. The situation is affecting over 900 students and sheds light on a larger issue concerning the deteriorating condition of public education infrastructure in urban regions.
In a positive light, this situation could serve as an opportunity for the government and community stakeholders to come together and address not only the immediate needs of Nabua Primary School but also to implement broader reforms aimed at improving school infrastructure across the region. By formally seeking assistance through the Ministry of Education, there is hope for a collaborative approach that prioritizes the safety and well-being of students.
