The Nabua Maroons rugby team is focused on incorporating more youth into its lineup as they participate in the Suva Rugby Union’s weekly competitions. Assistant forwards coach Neori Buli highlighted this goal following their 35-13 victory over USP in the Escott grade during round six of the Koroturaga Championship held at the USP grounds last Saturday.

Buli noted that the team experienced losses early in the competition as many players were new and adjusting to the pace. “We lost mainly because the team was newly formed from last year, with only a handful of returning players,” he explained. He praised the committee’s efforts in maintaining a balanced mix of youth and experience within the team, allowing younger players to learn from their older counterparts.

Moreover, Buli expressed satisfaction with the team’s continual improvement each week, emphasizing their commitment to learning and developing their skills. This blending of grassroots talents with national-level players is expected to provide valuable mentorship for the newcomers.

This emphasis on youth aligns with broader trends in rugby, where young players are increasingly recognized for their potential contributions. The active inclusion of youth not only strengthens the team but also fosters a new generation of rugby talent.

For the Nabua Maroons, this strategy may lead to future successes as they harness the energy and enthusiasm of their younger players while benefiting from the wisdom of experienced veterans. As the team continues to grow, the balance they maintain will be crucial in their ongoing quest for excellence in the rugby arena.
