The Nabau Brothers under 18-21 rugby team from Nakorotubu, Ra, dedicated three weeks to prepare for the much-anticipated Fiji Bitter Wairiki 7s Carnival. Despite facing a narrow defeat against Village Boys Black with a score of 10-12, team coach Peni Radau reflected positively on their overall experience during the tournament.

Radau explained that their journey to Taveuni, where the Wairiki tournament took place, marked both their debut in this event and their first visit to the beautiful Garden Island. He highlighted that this adventure not only provided competitive experience but also served as an opportunity for the players to explore Taveuni, a place many had only heard about.

The team had two primary objectives for the tournament: to compete and to experience the island itself. Radau expressed pride in being able to show his players this new environment, emphasizing the significance of their visit.

Although the young athletes encountered financial hurdles leading up to their participation, they were fortunate to receive robust support from their community, allowing them to participate in the Wairiki event. Radau expressed heartfelt gratitude to the supporters, families, and fans who played a crucial role in their journey.

This experience, despite the challenges faced, not only enriched the players’ skills on the field but also fostered a sense of community and resilience. It’s a testament to the spirit of youth sports, where teamwork, support, and connection to one’s roots shine brightly.

In summary, the Nabau Brothers team showed remarkable dedication and unity, turning potential obstacles into a motivating experience. Their journey serves as an inspiration, illustrating that with the support of community and determination, success in various forms is achievable.
