In a significant development for the community, approximately 3,000 residents, including civil servants, in Nabouwalu, Bua, now have access to clean and safe drinking water following the official commissioning of the Nabouwalu water treatment plant by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka.

The facility, which represents an investment of $5.4 million, includes a two million-litre packaged water treatment plant and a one mega-litre reservoir. It is designed to serve key infrastructure in the area, including the Nabouwalu sub-division hospital, Government quarters, and various local settlements such as Nabouwalu Village, Namulomulo, and Raviravi. This new system ensures that vital services and surrounding communities benefit from reliable access to fresh water.

Prime Minister Rabuka emphasized the importance of the project for the region’s growth, stating that the water treatment plant is pivotal not only for immediate needs but also for the future development of Nabouwalu Town. The project was initially commissioned two years ago by the previous administration, and the current government has successfully brought it to completion, showcasing a commitment to sustainable development.

Mr. Rabuka acknowledged the cooperation of local landowners, whose support has been crucial for the success of the project. He expressed gratitude for this collaboration, highlighting its importance in fostering sustainable growth and development across Fiji.

The Nabouwalu water treatment plant completion aligns with ongoing efforts across the country to enhance water infrastructure, paralleling other recent initiatives such as the new Nagado water treatment plant in Nadi, which aims to support a considerably larger population.

This investment not only meets an immediate need but also holds promise for promoting public health and supporting economic activities by providing reliable water supply. Such projects illustrate a hopeful and collaborative approach to infrastructure development, fostering a legacy of trust among communities and their government that can lead to continued progress and growth for all Fijians.
