The Nabau Brothers under 18-21 rugby team from Nakorotubu, Ra has successfully participated in the Fiji Bitter Wairiki 7s Carnival after three weeks of diligent preparation. Team coach Peni Radau reflected on their experience following a close match against Village Boys Black, which ended in a narrow loss of 10-12.
According to Radau, their journey to Taveuni for the Wairiki tournament marked a significant milestone, as it was not only their debut in the Wairiki 7s but also their first visit to the picturesque Garden Island. He emphasized that this opportunity was much more than just playing rugby; it was also about exploration and gaining new experiences.
The team had set two main objectives for their trip: to participate in the tournament and to visit Taveuni, a place many of the players had only heard about. Radau expressed that being able to step foot on the island provided invaluable experiences for the young athletes.
Despite facing financial hurdles before the tournament, the support from their community proved vital in enabling them to attend Wairiki. Radau expressed his gratitude to the supporters, families, and fans who played a crucial role in their journey to the tournament.
This experience illustrates the commitment of young athletes in the face of challenges and showcases the importance of community support in promoting youth sports. As they continue to develop both as players and individuals, their journey serves as a hopeful reminder of the opportunities that can arise from determination and teamwork.
