A vessel docked at Lautoka wharf has caught the attention of the public as it prepares for dry docking. The maritime craft, known as Yavirau, has local ties, including connections to noted businessman Wella Pillay, who is rumored to have acquired the ship for a Fijian chief residing overseas. While the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji is unaware of the vessel’s ownership or future plans, sources indicate that the Yavirau is owned by Tui Lakeba, Ratu Tevita Mara. Currently flying a Mongolian flag, the ship is undergoing maintenance following its arrival in Lautoka a few days ago.
