George Goundar, the director of Goundar Shipping Limited, has chosen not to address the incident involving one of the company’s vessels, the MV Lomaiviti Princess VII (MV LPVII), which ran aground near Moala Island on Wednesday evening. This decision comes after the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) reassured the public regarding the safety of the passengers onboard.
When approached for a comment, Mr. Goundar simply replied, “I have nothing to say to you, bye.”
The MV LPVII was reported to have 245 passengers and 33 crew members on board at the time of the incident, which occurred at approximately 7:06 PM on the Cakova Reef. Fortunately, MSAF has confirmed that all passengers have been safely transferred to another vessel that was sent by the shipping company.
According to MSAF, there has been no damage to the vessel’s hull, and no water has entered the ship, which highlights the situation’s controlled nature. The authority emphasized that efforts to resolve the incident and monitor the surrounding marine environment remain a top priority.
This incident underscores the importance of swift communication and safety measures in maritime operations, and the successful evacuation of passengers reflects a well-executed emergency response. The commitment to maintaining safety and monitoring the environment provides reassurance that similar incidents will be handled effectively in the future.
Overall, while the incident itself is concerning, the response and management of the situation have been handled with care, prioritizing passenger safety and environmental protection.
