Authorities are currently investigating the death of an inmate at the Fiji Corrections Service Natabua Prison in Lautoka. The incident involves a 28-year-old male prisoner who was discovered unresponsive in his cell early yesterday morning and was subsequently taken to the hospital, where he was declared dead by medical personnel.
Assistant Commissioner of Police for Crime, Mesake Waqa, confirmed that a report was filed at the Lautoka Police Station, initiating a thorough investigative process. Waqa stated, “The due investigation process has been followed,” and added that a post-mortem examination will be conducted to ascertain the cause of death. The deceased inmate hailed from Rakiraki and was incarcerated for theft charges.
