The director of Goundar Shipping Limited, George Goundar, has chosen not to comment on the recent grounding incident involving the MV Lomaiviti Princess VII (MV LPVII) near Moala Island on Wednesday evening. This decision comes in light of a reassuring statement from the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF), which confirmed the safety of the vessel’s passengers.
Efforts to obtain a statement from Mr. Goundar were met with a curt reply: “I have nothing to say to you, bye.” Meanwhile, MSAF has reported that there were approximately 245 passengers and 33 crew members on board during the incident at around 7:06 PM near Cakova Reef.
Assuring the public, MSAF stated that all passengers have been safely evacuated to a secondary vessel sent by Goundar Shipping. They emphasized that despite the grounding, there was no damage to the hull and no water was reported entering the vessel.
MSAF has prioritized the ongoing monitoring of the marine environment and is taking immediate actions to ensure the situation remains controlled.
This incident highlights the importance of maritime safety protocols and the quick response of authorities in ensuring the wellbeing of passengers and crew during emergencies. The assurance from MSAF reflects a commitment to managing the situation effectively, and it is encouraging to see the swift actions taken to ensure the safety of all those involved.
