Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has stated that he is currently unaware of the reasons behind the leave of Fiji Corrections Commissioner Dr. Jalesi Nakarawa, which was announced earlier today. During a media briefing, Mr. Rabuka indicated that he would receive information regarding the situation from the Secretariat of the Corrections Oversight Committee (COC) following a briefing from the Minister for Justice, anticipated to take place this afternoon.

The Prime Minister noted, “I will be informed of the reason,” and mentioned that Dr. Nakarawa’s leave could be extended to facilitate initial internal investigations. This process intends to ensure that the Minister’s recommendations are properly submitted to the COC.

Dr. Jalesi Nakarawa has been placed on leave while the Ministry of Justice investigates reports of serious incidents and possible breaches within the Fiji Corrections Service.

The ongoing situation highlights the importance of accountability and transparency within government institutions. It remains to be seen how the investigation will unfold, but it signifies a commitment to upholding the standards of the Fiji Corrections Service.

For further developments, readers can look forward to more updates in tomorrow’s edition of The Fiji Times.
