The Ministry of Health and Medical Services, in collaboration with the Fiji Police Force, is currently investigating a concerning incident involving seven guests at the Warwick Resort who were hospitalized after consuming a cocktail at the resort’s bar. The affected individuals, whose ages range from 18 to 56, exhibited symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and neurological issues. Due to the severity of two patients’ conditions, they have been transferred to Lautoka Hospital for further care.

A specialized team of health inspectors has been dispatched to Sigatoka Hospital to support the local health team in conducting a thorough investigation. Their aim is to identify any additional guests who may have experienced similar symptoms linked to the same beverage.

In light of this incident, the Ministry is urging the public to exercise caution when consuming food and drinks during the festive season, emphasizing the importance of ensuring that what they consume is safe.

This situation serves as a reminder of the importance of food and beverage safety, especially during periods of increased social gatherings. It also highlights the quick response by health authorities, ensuring that those affected receive the necessary care and that preventive measures are put in place for public safety.

Overall, while this incident is unfortunate, it allows health authorities to enhance their monitoring and ensure that standards are upheld in hospitality settings, ultimately aiming to provide a safer environment for all guests.
