An American woman, Jill Juarez, has sought legal assistance after being hospitalized in Fiji due to suspected alcohol poisoning. Juarez expressed her frustration and disappointment on social media, stating that she feels “angry, scared, frustrated, and sad” about the lack of support and answers regarding her incident.

Currently recovering in Fiji, Juarez described her symptoms, which included an inability to walk, numbness throughout her body, and persistent heart palpitations. She recounted her journey through Sigatoka Hospital for 24 hours and then being transferred to Lautoka Hospital for another day of care. Despite the passage of 11 days, she has yet to receive her blood and urine toxicology reports from either facility.

Although local police have interviewed her twice, she has not had any further communication, leading her to feel neglected in the investigation. She pointed out that after tests indicated no methanol was present in the food and drink consumed by her and others at the Warwick Resort, attention seemed to drift away from the case.

Deputy Prime Minister Viliame Gavoka also confirmed that no illicit substances or methanol were found in the samples tested. Despite the reassurance, Juarez insists that something occurred leading to the health scare.

This incident highlights significant safety concerns for visitors to Fiji and raises questions about responsiveness in cases of alleged poisoning. It serves as a reminder of the importance of proper medical protocols and thorough investigations in ensuring the safety and trust of tourists.

Looking ahead, this situation could prompt increased scrutiny on health and safety practices at tourist resorts in Fiji, ultimately leading to better protection for travelers.
