A tourist named Jill Juarez, who fell ill while visiting a resort in Sigatoka, Fiji, remains anxious as she awaits the results of critical blood and urine tests. After her hospitalization at Lautoka Hospital, Juarez, a US national, has expressed concern over the lack of communication regarding her test results, along with those of six other individuals who experienced similar symptoms.

In her frustration, Juarez shared her ordeal on social media, highlighting that she received no timely feedback from authorities regarding the tests conducted. Although a government statement confirmed no methanol was detected in the cocktail, Juarez feels unsettled by the delayed response over her personal toxicology results. She pointed out that while public results were released quickly—only a few days after the incident—her own results remain pending.

Juarez has since taken additional measures, including undergoing hair follicle testing back in the US, as she seeks clarity on the possible long-term effects of her illness. She voiced her worries about potential health issues stemming from the toxins, such as neurological damage and organ complications.

Determined not to let the matter rest, Juarez has sought legal counsel and plans to take further actions, including potentially obtaining a subpoena for her lab results.

When questioned, Dr. Atonio Lalabalavu, the Fijian Minister for Health, stated that the health report related to the incident is currently with the police, while police spokesman Wame Bautolu confirmed that investigations are ongoing. Minister for Tourism Viliame Gavoka reiterated the findings of the toxicology report during a press conference, declaring that there were no signs of methanol in the cocktails that were served.

This situation underscores the importance of timely communication in health emergencies and emphasizes the need for efficient handling of such cases to ensure tourists feel safe and supported. As investigations continue, it is hoped that Juarez and the other affected individuals will soon receive the necessary information to address their health concerns and regain peace of mind.
