Authorities are currently in pursuit of a mystery individual believed to be connected to police officers involved in the drug trade, as stated by Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu. The ongoing investigation aims to uncover the source of the alleged misconduct, which has initially only implicated certain officers.
Commissioner Tudravu emphasized the importance of identifying the other parties involved, noting, “The scope of our investigation is to identify the source.” Digital forensic checks have been finalized, and an investigator is set to travel to Australia to collaborate with the Australian Federal Police in gathering statements. This process is deemed crucial for confirming the authenticity of the messages referenced in the investigation, as solid evidence is necessary for any further actions.
While Mr. Tudravu expressed his team’s commitment to advancing the investigation, he cautioned that the process might be complex. “Investigators are doing their best to expedite the investigation; however, we are also mindful of the fact that we are working with other jurisdictions in the conduct of this investigation,” he said.
In a related development, Mr. Tudravu, accompanied by Australian Federal Police Commissioner Krissy Barrett, will address the media alongside Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka later today. The session is anticipated to offer more insights into the ongoing investigation and can be viewed live on The Fiji Times social media platforms.
This proactive stance from law enforcement demonstrates a dedicated effort to maintain accountability within the ranks and work alongside international partners to combat drug-related crimes.
