The family of Afroz Khan, who has been missing since last Wednesday, is struggling to confirm if a recently discovered body near Nausori is his. Sazia Khan, Afroz’s wife, expressed her frustration about being denied the opportunity to identify the body herself, as only her father-in-law has been allowed to see it.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed the discovery of the body, but details remain scarce. According to Sazia, Afroz had traveled to Suva after seeing an advertisement for a car sale. Their last conversation occurred when he informed her that he was at a service station in Nausori, where he was supposed to pick up the vehicle. She recounted receiving desperate calls from her husband’s phone, during which he appeared to be in distress and was allegedly kidnapped. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of $35,000 for his release.
With her husband’s vehicle still missing and the authorities currently investigating, Sazia is left in limbo. The family has requested a DNA test to determine the identity of the body found, although results could take six weeks, leaving them in a state of uncertainty and fear.
This tragic situation surfaces amidst ongoing police investigations, highlighting both the family’s anguish and the critical role law enforcement plays in resolving such cases. It is crucial for the community to remain vigilant and supportive during these trying times, as they seek answers and justice for Afroz Khan.
While this is a deeply distressing scenario, it serves as a reminder of the importance of community awareness in preventing such incidents and encouraging individuals to look out for one another.
