The family of Afroz Khan, who has been missing since last Wednesday, remains uncertain about the identity of a body recently discovered near Nausori. Sazia Khan, Afroz’s wife, expressed her distress as police have not allowed her to confirm if the body is that of her husband. Instead, her father-in-law is the only family member permitted to see the body, which he claims is not Afroz, though he noted that the condition of the body makes it difficult to determine.
Sazia explained that her husband traveled to Suva to purchase a car and was last heard from while picking up the vehicle at a service station in Nausori. In her last conversation with him, Afroz mentioned that the car he wanted was not provided by the dealers, and he was demanding the correct vehicle. Eyewitness accounts suggest he was kidnapped at that location. Sazia recounted a disturbing conversation with an Indian man using Afroz’s phone, during which she heard her husband pleading for help and a demand for a ransom of $35,000 was made.
Adding to the frustration, while news of the body was shared, Sazia highlighted that the police have granted her no opportunity to verify the identity. She is waiting for results from a requested DNA test, which officials indicated could take up to six weeks. Her husband’s vehicle remains missing, amplifying her sense of anxiety and uncertainty over the situation.
