The family of Afroz Khan, who has been missing since last Wednesday, is struggling to determine whether a body discovered outside Nausori yesterday belongs to him. Sazia Khan, Afroz’s wife, revealed that she has not been permitted to identify the body, while only her father-in-law has had that opportunity.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed the discovery of the body. Sazia recounted that her husband went to Suva to collect a vehicle he was interested in and had used his father’s phone to arrange the purchase. Their last conversation took place on Wednesday; Afroz informed his wife that he was at a service station in Nausori and was unhappy with the vehicle presented to him.
Sazia’s concerns escalated as eyewitnesses claimed that Afroz was kidnapped from the service station. She received a distressing call from someone using her husband’s phone, where she could hear men demanding a ransom of $35,000 and Afroz shouting for help.
Despite the developments, Afroz’s vehicle remains missing along with him. Sazia expressed her uncertainty as her father-in-law, who viewed the body, stated it was not Afroz and that its condition made identification difficult. The family has requested a DNA test to confirm the identity, but they have been informed that results may take up to six weeks.
The police are continuing their investigation into the case, as Sazia and her family await answers and the safe return of Afroz.
This tragic situation highlights not only the challenges faced by families of missing persons but also the importance of swift and thorough investigations. The hope remains that authorities will unravel the circumstances surrounding Afroz’s disappearance and bring him home safely.
