Authorities are conducting further forensic examinations on the skeletal remains of two individuals discovered at an island resort in Sigatoka earlier this month. Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime Mesake Waqa confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and that they have requested international assistance to ensure thorough analysis.
The remains were found by workers excavating a drain for a cable line at the resort, leading to an immediate report to the police by the resort’s manager. While there are no indications of foul play, police are committed to understanding the circumstances surrounding the discovery.
This unsettling finding coincides with other tragic cases in Fiji, where authorities are also investigating separate incidents involving the discovery of two bodies in the capital region. One body was identified as a man in his 40s, found in the Navua River, while another case involves a woman who was found deceased in a hotel in Suva. In both situations, law enforcement is actively working to ascertain the identities of the victims and clarify the circumstances of their deaths.
As the community grapples with these challenging events, there is a collective hope that the investigations will yield answers, enhance public safety, and provide comfort to grieving families. The resilience of the community and the dedication shown by authorities reflect a hopeful pursuit of justice and clarity in these difficult times. Ongoing vigilance in the community is crucial in supporting these efforts as investigators move forward in their inquiries.
