A mysterious vessel docked at Lautoka wharf has captured public interest as it prepares for dry docking. The maritime vessel, named Yavirau, is reportedly linked to various local stakeholders, including prominent businessman Wella Pillay, who is said to have purchased the ship on behalf of a Fijian chief residing abroad.
Although the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji lacks information regarding the vessel’s ownership or future plans, sources indicate that the Yavirau is owned by Ratu Tevita Mara, the chief of Lakeba. The vessel, which flies the Mongolian flag, is currently undergoing maintenance following its arrival in Lautoka a few days ago.
