Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has raised concerns regarding the hospitalization of seven individuals from a well-known resort on the Coral Coast over the past weekend. He assured that the government is handling the situation to the best of their abilities. Authorities have begun testing samples related to the incident.

The Warwick Resort Fiji, where the guests fell ill after reportedly consuming pina colada, described the occurrence as an “unprecedented” event in a statement. The resort, which has been operating in Fiji for nearly 40 years, expressed deep concern over the media coverage surrounding the health of their guests. They emphasized their commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards for visitors.

In their statement, resort management reiterated that they are collaborating with authorities to uncover the cause of this unfortunate incident, reassuring guests of their focus on health and safety throughout the investigation. They invited visitors with any specific concerns to reach out to management for answers regarding their experience at the resort.

As the investigation unfolds, the police, Ministry of Tourism, and Ministry of Health have remained quiet about the progress. Meanwhile, Australia’s travel advisory website still recommends standard safety measures for tourists in Fiji, highlighting vigilance against potential risks involving alcoholic beverages.

A toxicology report by the Fiji Police Force is anticipated to be released later this week. Of the seven individuals affected, five have been discharged from the hospital, while two remain under care; one has moved from the intensive care unit to a regular ward for further observation.

This incident underscores the importance of health and safety in the tourism sector, and it is a reminder for resorts to remain vigilant in their practices. As the investigation continues, the hope is that clear answers will emerge and that such unfortunate occurrences can be prevented in the future, safeguarding the reputation of Fiji as a safe and enjoyable travel destination.
