Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an iTaukei male found in Lautoka on May 17. Divisional Police Commander West, Senior Superintendent of Police Iakobo Vaisewa, confirmed that a report was received regarding the discovery of the body, which was located in a drain along Kadavu Street.
SSP Vaisewa stated that officials cannot determine the cause of death until the results of a post-mortem examination are available, which will also help clarify whether alcohol may have been a factor.
This case adds to a concerning trend in recent weeks, as highlighted by a series of investigations into unexplained deaths in the region. Notably, authorities are also examining the death of a 60-year-old man whose body was discovered at his home in Suva. Investigators are awaiting the findings of a post-mortem examination in that case as well, indicating a period of heightened scrutiny on safety and health-related issues within communities across Fiji.
The ongoing investigations underscore the importance of community awareness and support in addressing potential crises. Authorities are encouraging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that could relate to similar incidents. Community cooperation is key to fostering safety and preventing future tragedies.
