Authorities are currently investigating the death of a male inmate at the Fiji Corrections Service Natabua Prison, located in Lautoka. The inmate, believed to be in his late 20s, was discovered unresponsive in his cell early yesterday morning. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, he was declared dead by medical professionals shortly after arrival.
Assistant Commissioner of Police for Crime, Mesake Waqa, confirmed that the police have initiated an investigation into the incident. He stated, “The matter was reported at Lautoka Police Station today (yesterday), and the appropriate investigative procedures are being followed.” A post-mortem examination is scheduled to ascertain the cause of death.
