Mysterious Circumstances Surrounding Lautoka Farmer’s Death Spark Family’s Search for Answers

The family of Luke Ravuwai is seeking answers following the troubling circumstances surrounding his death, which was discovered at Vunato in Lautoka. Ravuwai’s cousin, Silina Filo, revealed that his shirtless body was found alongside his mobile phone, an unopened packet of cigarettes, and a lighter, while his wallet was reportedly missing. The 48-year-old farmer had traveled from Nausori to Lautoka on May 16, and his body was located the following day.

According to Ms. Filo, Ravuwai’s partner revealed he had just sold a piece of land and had about four thousand dollars in cash with him at the time. He typically did not bank his money and instead preferred to share it with family during visits. His partner became concerned after he failed to return home after spending time with friends at a local bar.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that Ravuwai was seen walking along the tramline the night of his disappearance, appearing intoxicated. Ms. Filo was only made aware of his situation when she received a call from his partner on May 19, which led her to check local hospitals and ultimately the police station.

Upon viewing his body, Ms. Filo noticed injuries above Ravuwai’s left eyebrow and lip, suggesting he had been assaulted. Despite concerns and speculation regarding the cause of death, the family has chosen to await the police investigation’s conclusions.

West Police Commander SSP Iakobo Vaisewa has confirmed that investigations are currently ongoing. Ravuwai is survived by his partner, seven siblings, and his parents, leaving a grieving family grappling with the loss of a man described as kind-hearted and generous.
