The Tebara FANCA Nations Muslim World Cup Championship 2024 is poised to kick off tomorrow at Churchill Park in Lautoka. This exciting tournament will feature five nations: Fiji, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the United States, and will run over the next five days, concluding on Sunday.
According to Javed Ahmed, president of the Fiji Muslim Sports Association, the biannual event will showcase various categories, including Under-17, Premier, Veterans, Masters, and Legends. The last championship took place in Nadi in 2022, where the Fiji FANCA Premier team emerged victorious.
Ahmed, who also serves as the national president for the Fiji FANCA team, acknowledged the challenges they face in defending their title with such strong competition. However, he expressed confidence in his team, highlighting the experience of players like Zibraaz Sahib, William Valentine, and Nabil Begg.
In addition to football, the tournament has expanded its offerings this year by including netball for women, enhancing the range of sports featured. Ahmed emphasized that all teams are competing not only for the trophy but also for pride and prestige in the FANCA competition.
The Fiji FANCA Premier management team is made up of key figures including Ahmed himself, along with Mohammed Mohin Rafiq, Mohammed Riyaz, M. Zeyaad Hussain, Mohammed Shamil, Abdul Nahid Khan, Mohammed Asif Khan, Varoon Karan, and Abdul Kadar.
