The Tebara FANCA Nations Muslim World Cup Championship 2024 is scheduled to commence tomorrow at Churchill Park in Lautoka. Five nations will compete in the tournament, including Fiji, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the United States, with the event concluding on Sunday.

Javed Ahmed, president of the Fiji Muslim Sports Association, stated that this biannual competition will span five days and feature categories such as Under-17, Premier, Veterans, Masters, and Legends.

“All five nations have come down to compete in the FANCA Nations World Cup,” he remarked. The previous championship was held in Nadi in 2022, where the Fiji FANCA Premier team emerged victorious.

Ahmed, who also serves as the national president for the Fiji FANCA team, acknowledged the significant challenge presented by the other teams. “For us, it is important to defend our title. We won in 2022, but this year it will be difficult as teams will be targeting us. However, we have experienced players like Zibraaz Sahib, William Valentine, and Nabil Begg in our squad, and we are looking forward to a strong tournament,” he added.

In addition to traditional sports such as golf and volleyball, netball will also be included for the women’s teams. “All teams are competing for prestige and pride in the FANCA competition,” Ahmed emphasized.

The management team for the Fiji FANCA Premier includes Javed Ahmed, Mohammed Mohin Rafiq, Mohammed Riyaz, M. Zeyaad Hussain, Mohammed Shamil, Abdul Nahid Khan, Mohammed Asif Khan, Varoon Karan, and Abdul Kadar.
