Aiyaz Musa has emerged victorious in the Fiji Football Association’s Vice Presidential West Elections, securing 32 out of 49 votes at the election held in Vatuwaqa, Suva. Other candidates in the race included Mun Sami Chetty, who received seven votes, and Jitendra Kumar, who garnered ten votes. The elections were marked by the withdrawal of two candidates, Nadi’s President Mohin Rafiq and Lautoka’s President Shalendra Prasad.

Musa’s path to this victory was paved after he sought permission from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to participate in the elections, which was granted earlier this week. However, the CAS ruling stipulated that Musa’s official start in the role will be on hold until a final decision is reached regarding his ongoing arbitration case. This follows his previous resignation as Fiji FA Vice President in August 2023 due to a conviction related to drug importation.

Musa’s legal journey signifies broader ongoing discussions surrounding accountability and governance within the Fiji Football Association, a topic that has been highlighted through earlier articles discussing his eligibility and the implications of leadership representation within sports organizations. His candidacy brings hope for change and renewal in football governance in Fiji, demonstrating a commitment to inclusivity and diverse leadership within the sport.

The outcome of these elections reflects an active engagement from the football community in Fiji, indicating a collective desire for improved governance and administration as they look to enhance the sport’s development in the nation. This electoral process represents a pivotal moment for Fijian football, igniting optimism for future advancements in the sport.
