Authorities are currently on the lookout for a suspect who is believed to have murdered a fellow inmate inside the Savusavu Police Station cell on November 5. Reports indicate that the suspect attacked the victim with a piece of timber while both were confined together.

Following the incident, the suspect was brought to court and subsequently directed to St Giles Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation. However, he managed to escape from the facility, prompting an urgent search by law enforcement. Police spokesman Wame Bautolu confirmed the ongoing efforts to locate the escaped individual.

Acting Police Commissioner Juki Fong Chew has instructed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Suva to probe the circumstances surrounding the incident and gather more details regarding how the situation unfolded.

This situation highlights both the challenges within the detention system and the importance of ensuring the safety of both inmates and staff. It is hoped that with swift action from the police, the suspect will be apprehended, allowing the investigation to proceed and justice for the victim to be pursued.

In summary, the search for an escaped murder suspect continues as authorities investigate the tragic incident that took place within police custody, aiming to prevent any further occurrences and maintain public safety.
