Authorities are actively searching for a suspect linked to the death of a man inside a cell at the Savusavu Police Station on November 5. Reports indicate that the suspect allegedly attacked his cellmate with a piece of timber, resulting in the man’s fatal injuries.

Following his court appearance, the suspect was transferred to St Giles Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation. However, he managed to escape from the facility, prompting a swift response from law enforcement. Police spokesman Wame Bautolu confirmed that efforts to apprehend the suspect are underway.

Acting Police Commissioner Juki Fong Chew has instructed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Suva to launch an investigation into the incident and review the circumstances that led to the tragic event.

In a hopeful turn of events, the police are committed to ensuring public safety and quickly recapturing the suspect, demonstrating their dedication to accountability and justice in the community.
