Murder Suspect Appears in Court as Investigations Continue

A man accused of murdering a woman in Raiwaqa, Suva, last month made his first appearance in the High Court in Suva yesterday. Anare Vuli Cilicewa, 31, faces one count of murder in connection with the alleged killing of Sabreen Shahib Ali on September 9.

During the court proceedings, Cilicewa stated that he presently does not have legal representation but has submitted an application for assistance from the Legal Aid Commission.

State Prosecutor Zenith Zunaid informed the court that they require an additional seven days to provide full disclosures regarding the case. He indicated that further police investigations are ongoing, and more information will be presented during the next court session.

The case is scheduled to be revisited on October 16 to confirm Cilicewa’s legal representation and to provide the necessary disclosures. Cilicewa’s production order has been extended in the meantime.

Before the adjournment, Mr. Zunaid mentioned that he would be attending another court for a different matter but would ensure that another prosecutor would represent him in this case.
