The High Court in Lautoka has found US citizen Bradley Robert Dawson guilty of murdering his wife, Christe Chan, during their honeymoon at Turtle Island Resort in Yasawa on July 9, 2022. Dawson was apprehended the following day at Matacawalevu Village, where authorities discovered he had his passport and personal items in his possession, suggesting he had contemplated escaping after the crime.
Justice Riyaz Hamza, who presided over the case, conveyed his conviction that the evidence overwhelmingly pointed to Dawson as the sole perpetrator of the murder. He stated, “For the aforesaid reasons I am of the opinion that the defense’s version cannot be believed and the same version is rejected.” The judge expressed confidence in the credibility of the prosecution’s witnesses, asserting they provided truthful and reliable testimony. He emphasized that the prosecution successfully disproved any defense argument of provocation.
Dawson is currently in custody and will be sentenced on January 27 of next year.
This case underscores the importance of thorough investigations and the judicial process in addressing serious crimes. As the legal proceedings continue, there is hope that justice will be served for Christe Chan and her family, promoting a sense of closure and accountability.
