A 25-year-old man has been charged with the alleged murder of his 59-year-old grandmother in Naitonitoni, Navua, which took place in June. Assistant Commissioner of Police – Crime, Mesake Waqa, reported that the suspect was arrested on June 25, 2024, and subsequently sent to Saint Giles Hospital for psychiatric evaluation. He returned to police custody on August 6, 2024. Following his interrogation, legal guidance was sought from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, which approved the murder charge. The accused is scheduled to appear in Navua Magistrates Court today.
