A man accused of murdering a woman in Raiwaqa, Suva, last month made his first appearance at the High Court in Suva yesterday. Anare Vuli Cilicewa, 31, faced a single murder charge before Puisne Judge Justice Pita Bulamainaivalu.
The incident allegedly occurred on September 9, when Cilicewa is said to have killed Sabreen Shahib Ali in Raiwaqa, Suva. During the court session, Cilicewa mentioned that he had not yet secured legal representation but had applied for assistance from the Legal Aid Commission.
State Prosecutor Zenith Zunaid informed the court that the prosecution required an additional seven days to provide full disclosures concerning the case. He also indicated that further police investigations were necessary, and more information would be presented at the next court hearing.
The case has been adjourned to October 16, at which time the court will review Cilicewa’s legal counsel and the comprehensive disclosures. Additionally, Cilicewa’s production order has been extended. Before the session concluded, Zunaid stated he would be attending another court for a different matter but would ensure another prosecutor would represent him in this case.
