A man accused of murdering a woman in Raiwaqa, Suva, last month made his initial appearance in the High Court in Suva yesterday. Anare Vuli Cilicewa, aged 31, is facing one count of murder for allegedly killing Sabreen Shahib Ali on September 9.

During the court proceedings, Cilicewa indicated that he had not yet secured legal representation but had submitted an application for assistance from the Legal Aid Commission. The State Prosecutor, Zenith Zunaid, informed the court that they required an additional seven days to file full disclosures related to the case.

Zunaid also mentioned that further police investigations were needed, and additional information would be presented at the next court hearing. The case has been adjourned until October 16 to allow for updates on Cilicewa’s legal representation and the full disclosures.

In the meantime, Cilicewa’s production order was extended. Before the adjournment, Zunaid notified the court that he would be attending another matter in a different courtroom but would ensure that a colleague would represent him in this case.
