Anare Vuli Cilicewa, who is facing murder charges, has decided to withdraw his bail application while awaiting a psychiatric evaluation from the Saint Giles Psychiatric Hospital. During a hearing with Justice Pita Bulamainaivalu at the High Court in Suva, Cilicewa stands accused of the murder of Sabreen Shahib Ali, which allegedly took place on September 9 in Raiwaqa, Suva.

Cilicewa’s legal representative, Manisha Singh, informed the court that they had not filed the bail application due to the need for the psychiatric report. She emphasized that the principal medical officer of St. Giles required knowledge of the specific charges to conduct a thorough assessment of Cilicewa’s mental state. Justice Bulamainaivalu acknowledged the importance of maintaining confidentiality related to the disclosures and recommended that Ms. Singh meet directly with Dr. Kiran Gaikwad to provide essential information without compromising this confidentiality.

State Prosecutor Zenith Zunaid also addressed the court, revealing that the police are in the process of compiling the necessary additional disclosures. He noted that the autopsy report indicated evidence of strangling and choking, contributing to the severity of the allegations against Cilicewa.

The case has been adjourned to December 3, when the court will review the psychiatric report, along with the photographic evidence from the crime scene and the autopsy findings.

This ongoing legal process emphasizes the importance of mental health evaluations in the judicial system while ensuring all parties involved adhere to confidentiality norms. As the case progresses, there remains hope for a thorough investigation that will bring clarity to the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
