Murder Case Shocks Suva: Alleged Killer’s Court Appearance Raises Questions

A man accused of murdering a woman in Raiwaqa, Suva, last month appeared for his initial court hearing in the High Court in Suva yesterday. Anare Vuli Cilicewa, aged 31, faces one count of murder in connection with the death of Sabreen Shahib Ali, which allegedly occurred on September 9.

During the hearing, Cilicewa informed the court that he had not yet secured legal representation but had submitted an application for assistance from the Legal Aid Commission. State Prosecutor Zenith Zunaid indicated that the prosecution requires an additional seven days to provide complete disclosures regarding the case. Zunaid also noted that further police investigations are necessary, and additional information will be presented at the next court session.

The hearing has been postponed to October 16 to review the status of Cilicewa’s legal representation and to ensure full disclosures are available. In the interim, Cilicewa’s production order has been extended. Zunaid mentioned he would be attending another court matter but would ensure another prosecutor steps in on his behalf for the proceedings.
