A 31-year-old man, Anare Vuli Cilicewa, appeared in the High Court in Suva on his first court date following allegations that he murdered a woman in Raiwaqa last month. Cilicewa faced a single murder charge for the alleged killing of Sabreen Shahib Ali on September 9.

During the proceedings, Cilicewa informed the court that he had not yet secured legal representation, although he had submitted an application for assistance from the Legal Aid Commission.

State Prosecutor Zenith Zunaid requested an additional seven days to file complete disclosures, citing the need for further police investigations to provide more information at the next court sitting.

The case is scheduled to continue on October 16, when updates regarding Cilicewa’s legal counsel and the necessary disclosures will be addressed. Cilicewa’s production order has been extended pending this next appearance. Zunaid also noted that he would be attending another hearing but would ensure another prosecutor represented him in this case.
