A man accused of murdering a woman in Raiwaqa, Suva, last month made his first appearance in the High Court in Suva yesterday. Anare Vuli Cilicewa, 31, faces a single count of murder for the alleged killing of Sabreen Shahib Ali on September 9.
During the court proceedings, Cilicewa indicated that he had not yet secured legal representation but had submitted an application for assistance from the Legal Aid Commission. State Prosecutor Zenith Zunaid informed the court that they would require an additional seven days to complete full disclosures related to the case, noting that further police investigations were necessary.
The court scheduled the next hearing for October 16 to discuss the status of Cilicewa’s legal representation and to review the full disclosures. Additionally, Cilicewa’s production order was extended. Before the adjournment, Mr. Zunaid mentioned that he would be occupied with another matter in a different court but would ensure that another prosecutor would take over his responsibilities for this case.
