Anare Vuli Cilicewa, a 31-year-old man accused of murdering a woman in Raiwaqa, Suva, made his first appearance in the High Court in Suva yesterday. He faces one count of murder for the alleged killing of Sabreen Shahib Ali on September 9.
During the hearing, Cilicewa informed the court that he had not yet secured legal representation but had submitted an application for assistance from the Legal Aid Commission.
State Prosecutor Zenith Zunaid requested an additional seven days to prepare full disclosures, indicating that further police investigations were necessary and that more information would be presented at the next hearing.
The case is set to resume on October 16, where the court will review Cilicewa’s legal representation status and the status of the full disclosures. Meanwhile, Cilicewa’s production order was extended. Zunaid noted he would be unable to attend the next proceeding due to another court obligation but would arrange for another prosecutor to represent him.
