A man accused of murdering a woman in Raiwaqa, Suva, last month appeared in the High Court in Suva for the first time yesterday. Anare Vuli Cilicewa, 31, faces a single charge of murder in connection with the death of Sabreen Shahib Ali, which allegedly occurred on September 9.

During the hearing, Cilicewa stated that he had not yet secured legal representation but had submitted an application for assistance from the Legal Aid Commission. State Prosecutor Zenith Zunaid informed the court that an additional seven days were required to provide complete disclosures related to the case, as further police investigations were ongoing.

The hearing was adjourned until October 16 to verify Cilicewa’s legal representation and to allow time for the necessary disclosures to be prepared. Additionally, the court extended Cilicewa’s production order. Before the proceedings concluded, Mr. Zunaid noted that he would be attending another court session but would ensure that another prosecutor was briefed to represent his interests in the current case.
