A man accused of murdering a woman in Raiwaqa, Suva, last month made his first appearance in the High Court in Suva yesterday. Anare Vuli Cilicewa, 31, is facing one count of murder for the alleged killing of Sabreen Shahib Ali on September 9 in Raiwaqa.

During the proceedings, Cilicewa informed the court that he did not have a lawyer yet but had submitted an application for representation from the Legal Aid Commission. State Prosecutor Zenith Zunaid indicated that the prosecution would require an additional seven days to file full disclosures related to the case, citing the need for further police investigation.

The hearing was adjourned until October 16, at which time the court will address Cilicewa’s legal representation and the full disclosures. Meanwhile, Cilicewa’s production order has been extended. Before the adjournment, Zunaid mentioned he would be attending another court matter but would instruct another prosecutor to represent him in this case.
