Two individuals facing murder charges in the death of Narend Chand, a Fiji-born Canadian national, will have to wait longer for a resolution, with their judgment now postponed to December 19. Salimoni Lagicere and Edward Nand are accused of orchestrating Chand’s murder following a deceptive online interaction where one of the defendants operated a fake profile of a woman Chand believed he was meeting.
According to allegations, Chand had been communicating with this fictitious woman on social media and made plans to meet her in Fiji. Unbeknownst to Chand, the two accused had instead plotted to rob him upon his arrival. Following this meeting, Chand’s lifeless body was discovered in the Waimaro River near the Waito Settlement in Tailevu.
The case, overseen by Justice Siainiu Fa’alogo Bull in Suva, signifies not only a procedural delay but also highlights the caution necessary in online interactions. Legal representation for the accused includes lawyer Loqi Cati for Lagicere and Sunil Gosai for Nand, while the state is represented by lawyer Zenith Zunaid.
This situation serves as a grave reminder of the potential dangers that can arise from online communications. While the legal process continues, the hope is that justice will be served, providing closure to Chand’s family and underscoring the importance of safeguarding personal safety in the digital age.
