Two men charged with the murder of a Fiji-born Canadian national near Korovou in Tailevu are now awaiting judgment until February 6, 2025. Salimoni Lagicere and Edward Nand were scheduled to receive their judgment today regarding the case involving Narend Chand, but Suva Judge Justice Siainiu Fa’alogo Bull has decided to adjourn the proceedings.
According to allegations, Chand had been planning a meeting with a woman he connected with on social media. Unbeknownst to him, the woman’s profile was fake and managed by one of the accused. The two men allegedly coordinated to meet with Chand under the guise of introducing him to the woman, only to betray him with plans to rob him. Tragically, Chand’s body was later discovered in the Waimaro River near Waito Settlement.
The prosecution, representing the state, is led by lawyer Zenith Zunaid on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions. Lagicere and Nand are each represented by their respective legal counsel, with Loqi Cati and Sunil Gosai.
This case highlights the potential dangers of online relationships and the importance of exercising caution when meeting individuals from social media. While the adjournment may be disheartening for those seeking justice, it serves as a reminder of the legal system’s thorough processes. The hope remains that, ultimately, justice will prevail for Narend Chand and his family.
