The High Court in Suva has postponed the ruling on the case of two men accused of murdering a Fiji-born Canadian. The incident is reported to have occurred near Korovou in Tailevu in 2023.

The defendants, Edward Nand and Salimoni Lagicere, had their case scheduled for judgment this afternoon, but the decision has been adjourned to March 18 by Justice Siainiu Fa’alogo Bull.

It is alleged that the victim, Chand, was lured to Fiji under the false pretense of meeting a woman he had been communicating with online. Unknown to him, the social media profile was fake and managed by one of the accused. The two men are believed to have planned to rob Chand upon his arrival. Tragically, his body was later discovered floating in the Waimaro River near Waito Settlement in Tailevu.

The prosecution, led by lawyer Zenith Zunaid representing the Director of Public Prosecutions, will continue to pursue the case against the accused. Lagicere is being represented by Loqi Cati, while Nand is defended by Sunil Gosai.

As the legal proceedings move forward, they highlight the serious issues surrounding online safety and the risks involved in social media interactions. This case serves as a cautionary tale, reminding individuals to exercise caution when engaging with unknown contacts online.
