A 24-year-old man facing murder charges has been granted a non-cash bail of $1,000. Kaline Masibalavu appeared before Justice Thushara Rajasinghe in Suva, where it was revealed that he is accused of fatally stabbing 25-year-old Sanaila Bavesi during a dispute on November 2. The victim was taken to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
The state’s prosecutor, Unal Lal, stated that he had no objections to granting bail after conducting thorough surety checks. Masibalavu’s mother and uncle were accepted as his sureties. He will reside with his uncle in Sawani while on bail.
Justice Rajasinghe granted Mr. Lal 14 days to provide complete disclosures. The defense was reminded to prepare agreed facts in the event Masibalavu pleads not guilty in the next court session. The case is scheduled to resume on February 7 next year, with conditions set for Masibalavu to follow while released on bail.
This decision offers a chance for the accused to prepare his defense while the legal process unfolds. As the case progresses, it underscores the importance of a fair judicial system that allows for due process.
In summary, Kaline Masibalavu has been granted bail in a high-profile murder case, pending further court proceedings in the upcoming months.
