The High Court in Suva has rejected the bail application of Apisai Madigibuli, who faces a murder charge. The 27-year-old was brought before Justice Dane Tuiqereqere, following allegations that he fatally stabbed his pregnant wife multiple times with a kitchen knife at an apartment complex on July 28 of this year.

During the court proceedings, Justice Tuiqereqere expressed concerns about Madigibuli’s safety if he were to be released back into society. The seriousness of the charges was emphasized, especially considering that the prosecution presented CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts pointing to his involvement in the alleged crime.

Justice Tuiqereqere also noted that Madigibuli’s trial has already been scheduled to occur within the next two months, indicating that a resolution is on the horizon. The case has been adjourned until December 3 for further mention.

This situation underscores the judicial system’s commitment to ensuring safety and justice in serious criminal cases, with the quick trial schedule reflecting an effort to handle such grave matters expediently. The fact that a trial date is set shortly also provides some assurance to the community regarding the judicial process moving forward.
