Murder Accusation: Suspect’s First Court Appearance Sparks Curiosity

A man accused of murdering a woman in Raiwaqa, Suva, last month made his first appearance in the High Court in Suva yesterday. Anare Vuli Cilicewa, 31, faced Justice Pita Bulamainaivalu on a charge of murder in connection with the death of Sabreen Shahib Ali, which allegedly occurred on September 9.

During the hearing, Cilicewa indicated that he had not yet secured legal representation but had submitted an application for assistance from the Legal Aid Commission. State Prosecutor Zenith Zunaid informed the court that additional time was required to file complete disclosures, requesting an extension of seven days to gather further information, as ongoing police investigations were necessary.

The court scheduled the next hearing for October 16 to review Cilicewa’s legal representation and the completion of disclosures. Cilicewa’s production order has also been extended. Zunaid mentioned that he would be occupied with another case but would ensure another prosecutor would handle the matter in his absence.
