A man accused of murdering a woman in Raiwaqa, Suva, last month made his first appearance in the High Court in Suva yesterday. Anare Vuli Cilicewa, 31, faces one count of murder for the alleged killing of Sabreen Shahib Ali on September 9.

During the court proceedings, Cilicewa stated that he had not secured legal representation but had submitted an application for assistance from the Legal Aid Commission. State Prosecutor Zenith Zunaid informed the court that the prosecution required an additional seven days to file full disclosures. He also noted that further police investigations were necessary, and additional information would be provided at the next court session.

The hearing has been adjourned until October 16, when the court will address Cilicewa’s legal representation and the complete disclosures. Meanwhile, Cilicewa’s production order has been extended. Prosecutor Zunaid mentioned that he would be attending to another case but would instruct another prosecutor to represent him in this matter.
