A 31-year-old man charged with the murder of a 28-year-old woman made his initial appearance in the High Court in Suva. Anare Vuli Cilicewa appeared before Justice Pita Bulamainaivalu yesterday. It is claimed that during a heated argument with Shabreen Shain Ali on September 8, Mr. Cilicewa allegedly used an object to fatally injure her.

Justice Bulamainaivalu emphasized the significance of obtaining legal representation given the gravity of the charges against him. Mr. Cilicewa stated that he has applied for assistance from Legal Aid. Both parties are scheduled to return in 14 days for updates regarding evidence, disclosures, and legal representation.

The case has been moved to the High Court by Suva Magistrate Jeremaia Savou, as it falls under the category of an indictable offense. Mr. Cilicewa has been remanded in custody, and his production order has been prolonged. The next hearing is set for October 16.
