A 31-year-old man charged with the murder of a 28-year-old woman earlier this month appeared in the High Court in Suva for the first time. Anare Vuli Cilicewa faced Justice Pita Bulamainaivalu yesterday.
The court heard that on September 8, Mr. Cilicewa was involved in a heated argument with Shabreen Shain Ali, during which he allegedly injured her with an object, leading to her death.
Justice Bulamainaivalu emphasized the necessity for Mr. Cilicewa to secure legal representation due to the gravity of the charges against him. Mr. Cilicewa indicated that he had applied for Legal Aid assistance.
The case is set to resume in 14 days, during which both parties will review information, disclosures, and legal representation. The Suva Magistrate, Jeremaia Savou, transferred the case to the High Court as it involves an indictable offence.
Mr. Cilicewa has been remanded in custody, and his production order has been extended. The next court date is scheduled for October 16.
