A man accused of murdering a woman in Raiwaqa, Suva, last month made his first court appearance in the High Court of Suva yesterday. Anare Vuli Cilicewa, 31, faces one count of murder for the alleged killing of Sabreen Shahib Ali on September 9.

During the hearing, Cilicewa informed the court that he has not yet secured legal representation, although he has submitted an application for assistance from the Legal Aid Commission.

State Prosecutor Zenith Zunaid stated that they require an additional seven days to provide complete disclosures. He also mentioned that further police investigations are needed, and additional information would be presented during the next court session.

The case has been adjourned until October 16, when the status of Cilicewa’s legal representation and full disclosures will be reviewed. Meanwhile, his production order has been extended. Before the adjournment, Prosecutor Zunaid indicated that he would be in another court for a different case but would ensure another prosecutor would represent him in this matter.
